Alabama adds 969 new cases of coronavirus; 7,500 cases among children 5-17 since March


Alabama 969 new cases of coronavirus overnight.

Alabama’s public health numbers Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. show 106,784 cases of coronavirus in the state, an increase of 969. The state reported 1,876 deaths, an increase of 9.

The state has administered 880,652 COVID-19 tests, 207,711 in the past 14 days. Of those recent tests, 13,795 were positive. ADPH data show that 1,280 people are hospitalized because of the virus.

Last school time counts

Last week, Alabama began releasing case data on the number of cases for ages 5-17. As of March 14, that number was 7,000. That figure grew to 7,500 as of yesterday’s data, representing just over 7% of all state cases. The largest number of cases in Alabama – 42,800 are between 25-49.
