AHL Moves 2020-21 Start Date to December 4 | TheAHL.com


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … President and CEO of the American Hockey League Scott Howson has announced a revised start date for the 2020-21 AHL season, as approved by the league’s Board of Governors during its 2020 Annual Meeting held by conference call today.

On the recommendation of the AHL Back to Game Task Force, the Board of Governors approved the move to the early start of the 2020-21 regular season to December 4, 2020, due to the current public health crisis of COVID-19. AHL will continue to work with its member clubs to monitor local developments and guidelines in all 31 league cities.

More details on the American Hockey League’s 2020-21 schedule have yet to be determined.

In operation since 1936, the AHL serves as the top development league for the 31 teams in the National Hockey League. Nearly 90 percent of today’s NHL players are graduates of the American Hockey League, and more than 100 honorable members of the Hockey Hall of Fame spent time in the AHL in their careers.
