Elon Musk’s hopes that Starship will reach orbit before this spring did not materialize, but a recent test shot makes the SpaceX CEO expect to see the company’s new vehicle take flight soon. He tweeted Thursday that his new SN5 construction completed a full-length static fire, saying a 150m test jump will happen “soon.” Of course, ten days ago he said there would be an escape attempt within a week, but they are progressing.
The SN5 spacecraft has just completed full-length static fire. 150m jump soon.

Last August we saw SpaceX’s Starhopper test vehicle complete a 150m Raptor-powered “bounce” and sooner or later the actual spacecraft will perform a similar test flight. The company has continued to iterate on its design prototypes and pressure test, we remember the end of SN4, as it gets closer to actual flight. If there is any information in a webcast of the event, we will let you know. Even with the Crew Dragon slated to return this weekend, SpaceX’s priority is the Starship project.
