Advanced B Score X Score: Cubs 8, Pirates 7 – September 1, 2020

Whewwwwwwwww. It was threatening, frequent, bad, bad, bad damage. It wasn’t just a big developed lead, this is how it got there. But, most importantly: the cub won the game. They had to go through some extra innings situations to make it happen, but they did. Ian Hep came up with a game-winning hit, Jeremy Jeffres got rescued, and all is well.

OK. Other stuff.

Cubs Cana initially made the number more crooked, but six runs from the first five innings usually puts you in a much better place. But, John Lester received an initial greeting with the approval of strict contact, by the 5th they began to search for grass. In the blink of an eye, -1-1 became a -4–4 game, and Lester was tied to another base and ran (better or two too late) and pulled out.

Colin Ray, with the big help of Ill Happ, came out of the inning (Sack Fly allowed):

Before the 8th bottom, the score was 6-5 with an hour-long rain delay. Dan Winkler got the ball after the game resumed, and he immediately entered his big league by giving the game a spell to Rookie K’Bryan Hayes. I think that’s great for her.

But why was Winkler getting eighth in that situation, with the resting Rowan Vic, Ryan Tapera and Jeremy Jeffres in the bullpen? I mean, after the game was over, Vic came in the same innings, so? In general, I’ve liked David Ross’s game moves so far this year. Tonight? He was slow to pull Lester and I didn’t find Winkler’s choice there. Ross then also turned to newcomer Josh Osich in the 9th with two and one out, which meant he had to face at least one ride (against which he has been routinely terrible). Get out, but there was a slight sound of Vic pulling there.

… And then Ross left Osich in the 10th inning after Cubs scored in half of his frame. He got a first out on the ground, a lefty. Nice. But then it’s there to face Wright, when you have to tie up and walk in third, when exactly do you need a strikeout? I don’t get it. Naturally, the game is bound with Osich back on the bouncer. And then came Jeffres. None of them are on Os Sich, remember, who did everything he could except get a strikeout (he’s only been at a rate of 17.8% or થી for centuries in his career). It was weird.

But, again, good for the Cubs batsmen to score in the 10th and 11th and put in enough to give themselves a chance.

Complete score.
