Adult Swim and Crunchyroll team up with Production IG for a new original anime series, Fena: pirate princess! The IG production joked during Anime Expo Lite earlier this month that they were going to announce a new anime in the works during the Comic-Con at Home weekend, and now we’ve finally figured out what this mysterious project was! Announced during the Toonami Special Edition of Adult Swim Con, Adult Swim has confirmed that they will join the Crunchyroll Originals line (which currently includes hits like The god of high school) with Fena: pirate princess, airing on the Toonami block and airing with Crunchyroll next year.
Produced as a joint effort between Adult Swim and Crunchyroll, Kazuto Nakazawa (B: The beginning, Kill Bill) to direct new anime series for animation studio Production IG Fena: pirate princess It will be a series of 12 episodes, and you can see the new anime for the first time in the video above! Adult Swim and Crunchyroll also released key art with Fena: pirate princess‘cast of characters below!
Adult Swim and Crunchyroll describe Fena: pirate princess as such, “Fena: pirate princess is an original 12-episode anime series that tells the story of a young orphan, Fena Houtman. Fena was raised on an island where there is no hope of becoming anything more than chattel, to be used and discarded by the soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than a helpless orphan. When her mysterious past hits, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors. Her goal: to forge a new identity, free from bondage, and to find a place where she can truly belong and uncover the true mysteries behind a keyword ‘Eden’. It’s the story of a lifelong adventure that she and her crew of misfits and unlikely allies will have to achieve their goals! “
Unfortunately, no details are yet on the cast or remaining staff, but ComicBook.com will be here to share the main updates as they arrive! Both Adult Swim and Crunchyroll have made great strides in their original anime productions in recent years, so this team is definitely exciting.
