A man has died after a shooting with police in California at a gas station Friday.

San Luis Obispo police responded to reports of gunfire being fired at a Vons gas station in Nipomo, California at about 11:15 p.m.

The suspect ‘fired fired, that he was shooting at moving cars, he was shooting all over the area. We are not exactly sure why at the moment, ‘said a police spokesman, according to The Tribune.

Police said they will not identify the suspect until his family is in the report.

The police spokesman said that when sheriff’s deputies came on the scene, they involved ‘the active shooter’, which led to his death.

Police tweeted at 12:50 p.m., the suspect was dead after the shooting with California Highway Patrol officers and officers.

Police added that there was ‘no known threat to public safety’ and determined if anyone was injured at the scene.

It is unclear what time the shooting took place and whether the suspect died at the scene or when he was taken to the hospital.

Police said the suspect had a handgun and it is not known if he had any additional weapons.

Authorities are still searching to see if bystanders were injured in the shooting. No police officer was injured during the incident.

Witnesses said KSBY had shot the shooter between seven and eight shots after an altercation at the gas station.

By noon, traffic from the police scanner showed that a woman who was believed to have been with the shooter but was told she had fled the scene was arrested, The Tribune reported.

It is unclear what relationship the woman had with the shooter.
