Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers is one of nine players to win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player honor twice.
Winning a third MVP and joining an even more exclusive club is yet another goal for the 37-year-old Rogers as he is a favorite to win the award in the final three weeks of the season.
“There aren’t a lot of people who have won three, so it definitely means a lot,” Zach Cruz of PagekersWire.com said Wednesday. “
In fact, there are only five players who have won the MVP award three times. Tom Brady, Brett Fowler, Johnny Units and Jim Brown have each won the award three times while Peaton Manning took five MVPs during his 18-year NFL career. J Mont Montana, Steve Young and Kurt Wagner are the other two-time winners, along with Rogers.
The 2020 MVP Awards are likely to end with either Rogers’ third or second Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahoms taking home the honor. With three games left, two quarterbacks are set to win the award at the end of the season.
Rogers has had one of the best seasons of his career. He leads the league in touchdowns with 39 and could break his 45th single-season record by the end of the year. He has accomplished that while throwing just four interceptions and speeding 3,685 yards through 13 games. The league’s pass rating is 119.7.
Mahoms is also having a fantastic year. He leads the league in passing yards with 4,208 and has thrown 33 touchdowns with just five interceptions, three of which came against Miami last week.
Rogers subscribes to the textual meaning of the award. He should go to the player who is most valuable to his team in a given season. Rogers said he is happy to be back in the conversation after a comparative comparison of the last two seasons statistically. But he feels he reflects on his place in this year’s race and has taken the Packers to the top in the NFC race.
“I think it should live up to what is used as an acronym,” Rogers said. “He is the person who is most valued in his team. I think that’s why I should be in competition for most of the years and especially this year. “
