Aaron Rogers and Green Bay Packers beat the ill-fated San Francisco 49ers 34-17 on Thursday night. Rogers was his typical future Hall-F-Famer self, as he completed 25 of 31 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns. He had enough to sit on the bench until the final quarter of the fourth quarter, as Tim Boyle took charge of the center and wrapped things up. During the win, Rogers entered the rare company, becoming the second player to connect with a historical performance in the first eight games of a season.
According to NFL researchRogers, who has now thrown 24 touchdowns and just two interceptions so far this season, has become the second player in NFL history to throw at least 24 touchdowns and two or less interceptions in his team’s first eight games of the season. He joins Tom Brady, who threw 30 touchdowns and two interceptions in the first eight games of the 2007 season, while the New England Patriots led 16-0. During that campaign, Brady became the first quarterback to throw a 50-plus touchdown in a single season.
Rogers is clearly having fun on the field again. Even after the Packers went 13-3 last year and entered the NFC Championship game, Green Bay was tabbed as the main candidate for repression. The storyline just picked up steam when the Packers made a quarterback with their first-round picks and then ran back with their very next pick. The offense on Thursday saw more than a penalty, however, Davant Adams had 10 passes and touchdowns for 173 yards while the Marquis Valdes-Scantling had two touchdowns for a total of 53 yards at two receptions.
The Packers team has a top 10 pass offense in the league and is preparing to get the first ranked seed in the NFC this year. It is also clear that there is no mishap under his under-old Under Center, and it could be on the verge of a historic season.
