According to the administrator of the Fort Bragg Sherwood Oaks health center, Will Maloney, a resident of the center who had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus died the night of Thursday, July 16, 2020. He explained: “We cannot say with certainty that he passed away from the virus-related complications right now because we have to wait for the death certificate to be completed. ”
This news comes the day that Mendocino County Public Health announced new restrictions on companies due to a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases.
Administrator Maloney said at this point, four facility staff members tested positive for the virus and are on leave and supervised by Mendocino County Public Health. He also said that there are four residents of the facility who are isolated and are being treated for the virus along with five other residents who are isolated and monitored because they were very close to the four confirmed cases.
Currently, three nurses are dedicated to unit COVID-19 of the facility, says administrator Maloney. He said that when they are not at work, they are isolating themselves at home. Surprisingly, these three staff members dedicated to COVID-19 patients have not tested positive for the virus, Administrator Maloney revealed. He attributed that they would continue to be COVID-19 free by wearing long-sleeved shirts, hospital gowns, aprons, N95 masks, face shields, gloves, and following best practices.
According to Administrator Maloney, the County has been sending test kits to facilities where its staff then takes samples from patients, the County collects the samples, and then analyzes them. He said the usual processing time for the tests was 48 to 72 hours, which he considered quite fast.
Administrator Maloney said, “My staff is working hard and diligently to stop the progression of the virus and protect our staff and residents.”
