A possible successor to Jeff Bezos leaves Amazon

Wilke has been in charge of Amazon’s global consumer division since 2016 and was widely seen as a likely successor to Bezos. Wilke has been with the company since 1999.

He will be replaced in his role by Dave Clark, the current senior vice president of Amazon for global operations, who joined Amazon in 1999.

Wilke’s surprising departure comes as a question Amazon (AMZN) deliveries have increased during the pandemic. Last month, Amazon’s revenue in the three months ended June Wall Street projections declined.

The online retail giant reported $ 88.9 billion in revenue, up 40% from the same period a year earlier. Net income doubled in the quarter to $ 5.2 billion, despite the company’s more than $ 4 billion investment in managing the pandemic during the period.

Amazon also comes under scrutiny from lawmakers over its competing tactics.

Bezos told Capitol Hill last month in addition to the CEOs of Call (AAPL), Facebook (FB) en Google (GOOG)as part of a congressional anti-trust probe. During the hearing, Bezos acknowledged that Amazon may have misused third-party vendor data to inform its own product decisions – a major concern about the company’s approach to competition.
