A member of the West Virginia Air National Guard was fatally wounded in response to a fire call early Sunday morning, officials said.
Airman, assigned to the 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg, was responding to a fire in a closed building on Charles Town Road when he was seriously injured.
Investigators believe the fire – and another about three miles away – was deliberately wrapped around each other within 20 minutes. Both fires were started between 1 and 2 in the morning and neither structure was captured.
The guard said in a press release that the name of the civil member has been withheld for 24 months for further notice to relatives.
