Law enforcement officials said Wednesday that a man has been arrested in Maryland for allegedly raping Democratic presidential candidate Joseph R.
The criminal complaint filed by the Secret Service on Wednesday did not describe any action taken by a man identified as James Dale Reed to counter the alleged threat. It is said that in Oct. October, Mr. Reed and his hometown, Frederick, Mo. No. went to a house with signs of the Biden-Harris campaign in the yard and a handwritten note of graphic threats against subscribers to their supporters.
The resident’s video doorbell captured an image of the man who left the note, the complaint said.
“We’re the ones with these scary guns, we’re the ones your kids dream about.” Mr. Reed, 42, was arrested last Friday and, according to court records, is in Frederick County, Mo. A spokesman for the Maryland Office of Public Defender, representing Mr. Reid, declined to comment.
He provided a sample of the palm print and signature and admitted to having written the letter according to the complaint. He is charged with the federal crime of intimidating the main candidate, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and two violations of state law: mass violence and intimidation of voters.
The complaint states that Mr. Reid was known for enforcing the law in 2014 to file a complaint against a person under Secret Service Protection.
Death threats against United States presidential and presidential candidates are not uncommon in election years. In another high-profile threat this month, several men were accused of plotting to assassinate Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who has become a focal point of opposition groups to the government and is angry about coronavirus control measures.
