The U.S. Geological Survey discovered the quake at 9 a.m. with an epicenter 20.2 miles northwest of Santa Cruz. With a magnitude of 3.1 and depth of 4.35 miles, this quake could be felt near the epicenter, but damage to structures is unlikely.
