A closer look at what’s coming in season one of ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ – TrekMovie.com

This week saw the release of the series premiere of Star Trek: Lower Decks. So far, we’ve given it the TrekMovie review and review treatment and analyzed all the Easter eggs and references. The episode “Second Contact” was also the subject of both of our podcasts with the teams from All Access Star Trek and Shuttle Pod talking about it at length.

But there is more to cover, specifically with the example of season one of Lower Decks that was shown at the end of the episode (and posted on the official site yesterday). There’s been a lot going on with this season Star Trek: Lower DecksPromo, with fast cuts and events shown out of order. We have sorted things out and sorted them into some categories to discover the secrets. Of course… SPOILERS.

Edosians, and Jellies, and Borg, Oh my!

There were some familiar strangers appearing during the promo. One appears to be an Edosian in silhouette, and we also get a glimpse of one of his three legs. Not much is known about this breed, so if they have lived long like Vulcans, it is possible that this Edosian Arex may be from Star Trek: The Animated Series. The two shots of this scene also appear to show Boimler out of phase – and for some reason, with a dog.

There’s also a short kiss of a Jellyfish-like life-form of spaceship that may be the same kind that the USS Enterprise-D encountered in the premiere of the TNG series “Encounter at Farpoint.”

There is a brief recording of some Borg, viewed through Rutherford’s cybernetic apparatus.

A Klingon general with an eye patch

We also got our first good look at a Klingon. Boimler announces that he is taking General K’Rin (a judgment on spelling) to a planet named Talgana IV (again). This Klingon had a bolted-on eyepatch just like General Chang’s Star Trek VI. In the premiere of the series, Mariner mentioned how she got some of her wall contraband from a Klingon with a fixed eye socket, so this is probably the same Klingon.

Big problems in Little Qo’noS

There are a few shots of an away mission with Boimler (in dress uniform) and Mariner, some we saw in a previous trailer, showing them attempting a ‘little Qo’noS’ enclave on a planet. It is possible that this is related to the taking of the Klingon general to Talgana IV. It looks like the mission is going awry at some point, with her pindle without letting her go, and a box of Klingon symbols being thrown along the way.

We can see the couple Boimler (still in dress uniform) and Mariner walking through the streets, maybe following the hunt. The locals on this planet also do not wear many clothes.

There’s a meeting in a strange bazaar where Klingon weapons are sold, and Boimler gets a bear hug from an angry alien who loves what appears to be Klingon gagh.

… and run more

Rutherford and Tendi also see sprints through a foreign market, wearing ponchos to mix in?

The horn of truth

There are some pictures of our four lower decker ensigns in a strange courtroom, similar to those of Star Trek VI.

However, this tribunal is not with Klingons, but a new foreign race. Although they also look like a nice apartment with head-to-head.

The ensigns are told that they “only have to speak the truth” through a special horn, which Rutherford uses to let the strangers know that he is “Happy to be here!”

Danger on the crystal planet

There are quite a few clips in the promo from what looks like a standard second contact mission led by Commandant Ransom on a planet with large crystals.

But things don’t seem to be going as planned as the aliens “Starfleet scum!” and start throwing spears, injuring a Boolean crew member. Maybe they don’t like their gift.

Mariner also shows off some of her fighting skills here.

Attack of the growth

We see a spreading infection traveling through the tractor tree of the ship.

This growth transforms parts of the ship and has explosive properties for Tendi and other crew members.

Parts of the ship are also flooded, and Tendi goes for a swim.

Spacewalks are easy

We saw spacewalking in the first episode “Second Contact”, and the example of one season showed that there is more to come. Rutherford explains to Tendi how spacewalks are easy, just “float and magnet, float and magnet,” which does not calm her nerves. Think of all the floating pun outside the windows.

We also see the pair drifting and magnetizing through the field, which includes a large medical cap with the same markings as those seen in the box, where Boimler did his “captain’s log” in “Second Contact.”

We also see a few photos of Mariner doing her own spacewalk under a number of different starships. This may be another episode because we do not see the same pun field.

Fight the bugs

There are a few shots on the bridge at red warning as the crew heads for a horrible bug-like stranger.

Both Captain Freeman and Commander Ransom can be seen holding a star chart with the Federation / Romulan border and neutral zone.

In the midst of this crisis, we see Boimler and Mariner manning stations on the bridge, with Boimler not one under the impression by meekly suggesting “evasive maneuver 88.”

Captain Freeman: Sulu fan, moon destroyer

We also get another shot on the bridge at another time. Here we see Shaxs puzzled that he is not allowed to shoot at the warp core of another ship, instead calling Captain Freeman, “evasive pattern Sulu-alpha.”

The captain is also seen next to a display showing “Lunar Demolition” and talks about how “the impossible is doing what we do.”

Thug Sign life

As head of the show, there are even more moments with Mariner, including one where she exits Freeman’s ready room with Vulcan greetings, gangsta style.

We see that Mariner runs into some more problems, including being taken for a ride on top of a turbo lift she was working on and was lowered into a barrel with giant eels.
