Kimora “Kimmie” Lynum died in her sleep the night of July 17 at the tender age of 9, making her the youngest person in the state of Florida to die of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to First Coast News.
As her family copes with the unexpected loss of Kimmie, who has been described as healthy with no pre-existing conditions that would put her at greater risk, they are also channeling their pain to speak out against the reopening of schools in the state.
“He hit the target, and I think a lot of people here don’t understand that we have to take this seriously,” family spokesman Dejeon Cain told the news site. “We cannot send our children to school in the midst of a pandemic and use them as a pawn. We have lost compassion in our state and local governments. “
“[Kimmie] She was a happy girl, but she didn’t even live her life, “she added.
It is still unclear how Kimmie contracted the virus, as it was not related to travel, and it was not known that she had come into contact with someone who allegedly had the virus.
“She was fine at one point, and suddenly she had a feverish situation,” Cain said.
The family has started a GoFundMe to help pay for the funeral expenses.
