The letter to parents does not contain any information about whether other students or staff who are exposed to quarantine or whether or not classes will be closed. “Our supervisory staff continues to thoroughly clean and disinfect the school building daily, and especially affected areas,” the letter said.
Angie Franks said both of her cousins attending school tested positive for COVID-19. One came home from school Monday not to smell, she said in an interview with the AJC. His mother took him for tests where quick results showed him positive, Franks said. Then his brother had exhibited symptoms and he was also tested. His positive results were returned on Wednesday.
The students are quarantined at home, but both went to school Monday. Franks said the boys’ father notified the school on Tuesday and Wednesday after they received their test results.
“They sat in class all day without masks and not social distance,” Franks said. “And I have no idea how many children they came in contact with.” She said the boys did not understand the gravity of the virus and were not encouraged to wear masks in classrooms or walk through the school. Paulding County school system does not require masks for students and staff, although it does provide them for teachers.
Channel News Action reported that there have been 53 cases of COVID-19, including 23 students who reported to Paulding County schools since July 1st.
