HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania health officials reported more than 800 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
There were 832 new cases, the highest daily jump since May 22, according to data from the health department.
That pushes the state total to 88,074 since March.
Lehigh and Northampton counties increased by 22 and 16 respectively, while Berks County had only 4 new cases.
The state health department also reported 25 more deaths related to the virus, with a total of 6,712.
Pennsylvania has seen an increase in new cases since mid-June, as Allegheny and Philadelphia county officials have taken steps to impose new restrictions or keep them in place.
On Wednesday, Governor Tom Wolf expanded his mandatory mask order to include all public places, indoors and outdoors, where constant social distancing is not possible.
Wolf also said Wednesday that he does not foresee another comprehensive closure order to contain the coronavirus and, rather, hopes to let local governments make decisions based on the conditions they are seeing in his area.
