82 inmates and one employee test positive for COVID-19 at Weber County Jail

OGDEN, Utah – An outbreak of COVID-19 at the Weber County Jail was reported Wednesday night.

According to a press release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, 82 inmates and an employee at the 12th Street facility have tested positive for COVID-19.

He says that prison administrators are working closely with community partners, including the Weber-Morgan Health Department, the Utah Department of Health, local courts, the Weber County District Attorney’s Office and the Medical Contractor (Vital Core Health Strategies) to address concerns, reduce spread as much as possible, and provide the best medical care to those who have tested positive.

The medical contractor is hiring additional staff, on top of the contract, to help control the outbreak, according to the press release.

The jail has been and will continue to work closely with the Weber County District Attorney’s Office and the courts to identify inmates who are at increased risk of serious illness from COVID-19 for possible early release or alternative sentencing options.
