505 Games apologize but keep controversy control over next gen

‘Every road we followed was a form of blocker’

505 Games has confirmed its position regarding Remedies Control and the selective upgrade offer of next gen. In a statement posted on the Control website, the publisher apologized to customers, saying they had investigated every avenue to manage all players to no avail.

To recap, 505 games will be released Master Ultimate Edition on September 10 for PS4 and Xbox One. This GOTY-style compilation will feature the base game and its two DLC extensions. Players who purchase the Ultimate Edition will also receive a free upgrade to the next-gen edition of Control when the new platforms launch later in 2020. However, those who al own Control and their expansion packs are not eligible for the free upgrade. This news has raised some eyebrows Control players who feel their loyalty is ‘punished’.

“We have spent several months on all of our launch options before Master Ultimate Edition and no decision was taken lightly, “said 505 Games in the statement. While the challenge is to bring each game to next gen platforms, we soon realized that it was even harder to upgrade our current user base to next gen with full parity across platforms with our year-old game. “

“Every avenue we followed was some form of blocker and those blockers meant that at least one group of players dropped out of the upgrade for various reasons. As of today, we can not offer an upgrade for everyone, and one group leaving feels unfair. We understand that is not what you want to hear. “

So, as it is now, purchase Master Ultimate Edition is the only way to receive the next gene upgrade. The vanilla edition of Control, along with its expansions, will not be sold separately on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Control will be playable via backward compatibility, allowing players to transfer the current edition in one form or another, but the only way to play the “enhanced” edition is double dip.

“To bring Control to next-generation consoles in any form, we had to make some difficult decisions, “the statement continues. These came in the form of making the simplified Master Ultimate Edition product plan we have today … That we took a while in response does not mean we did not listen. We’re sorry we did not meet everyone’s expectations and we hope you continue to support us Control. We thank you for your support so far. “

Master Ultimate Edition launches digitally on PC via Steam on August 27 and on PS4 and Xbox One on September 10.
