Salisbury, N.C. – North Carolina’s husband and 48-year-old wife die after holding hands after a fight with COVID-19.
His son, Shane Peoples, his mother and father, Johnny Lee Peoples, 67, and Kathy Darlene Peoples, 65, died last week.
“They’ve been married for 48 years, with 50,” people said. “They’ve been together for those 50 years.”
People said the death marked the end of a 30-day ordeal for parents infected with both viruses, then declining rapidly. He said his mother started him just a few days before his retirement.
“It was mainly fever and loss of taste.” “My dad starts showing symptoms after two days. About two weeks later they were both put in the ICU. Everything just went south, everything got worse.”
When the end was in sight, Peoples said hospital staff did their best to bring the couple together.
“The next day, they put them in the same ICU room, they put their hands together and the nurses gathered,” he said. “They passed within four minutes of each other. They died holding hands and walked hand in hand to heaven,” he said.
The funeral was held outside of their social distance.
People said that if there is a remedy for their family from what they have experienced, people need to understand that, in some cases, COVID-19 is a killer.
People said, “I don’t want anyone else to be hurt.” “I don’t want anyone to feel the pain we feel.”
People poured his heart into a widely read Facebook post. She said her family hopes and prays that her parents will be fine, and they never expected that they would not.
He also said his parents took the epidemic seriously, but he is still sick. He urged people to wear masks, wash their hands, practice social distance and be kind to one another.
