50 Cent and Steven Victor discuss Pop Smoke’s posthumous album, Murder Investigation, and more

The late rapper Pop Smoke was remembered by two of his closest friends during a recent episode of Rap Life on Apple Music.

50 Cent and Smoke director Steven Victor joined Rap Life host Ebro Darden earlier this week to discuss the posthumous album by the 20-year-old Brooklyn star, Shoot the stars Aim for the moon, his ongoing murder investigation, and more.

“I am getting information from Pop’s criminal attorney and he is in communication with LAPD and the detectives. He is definitely much closer than a couple of months ago … Justice will definitely be served,” said Victor, who also serves as vice president. A&R senior at Universal Music Group.

Pop Smoke was shot dead at a Los Angeles residence earlier this year. Weeks before his death, the rapper released Meet Woo 2, which debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200.

In early March, 50 Cent announced plans to produce and finish the Smoke album. During the Rap Life episode, Victor recalled how 50 pushed him to launch the project.

“50 was like, ‘You can’t be depressed and stop the legacy he was building. How do you expect everyone around him, in terms of his family, to benefit from all the work he did? Be as if it all happened in vain if you don’t release the album, ‘”Victor said.

50 Cent also played the Brooklyn music scene in the wake of the murder of Pop Smoke.

“Many artists are trying, but some of them are creating more consistency than others,” said the rapper. “What’s really interesting about Brooklyn is that they’re actually promoting each other. If they can figure out how not to kill each other in the process and stay focused on what they really want to do, this is our music.”
