Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young wants to urge fans to trust what the San Francisco 49ers are doing. While they don’t always know the team’s thinking, GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have managed to transform one of the league’s worst rosters into a Super Bowl contender in a short span.

That has to be worth something.

Sometimes that trust involves recognizing that the 49ers’ brain trust will make decisions that they won’t always understand right away.

“As a fan, you will have to get used to having things that will surprise you,” Young said during a KNBR interview Wednesday night at the Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks show. “You are going to have to trust them, and you are going to have to trust them until they lose your trust.”

Fans aren’t the only ones Young had advice for.

The former quarterback-turned-ESPN analyst mentioned the contractual dispute between Raheem Mostert and the 49ers. The broker agent was so frustrated after months of contractual conversations that he requested an exchange.

Young knows that sometimes you have to let some talented players go, but he cautions that doesn’t always work, for both sides.

“One of the biggest mistakes we made was letting Ricky Watters go,” Young explained. “And Ricky was glad to go. ‘I will prove them wrong. I will go to Philadelphia.’ And you know what? The worst thing that happened to us and Ricky was that we parted ways.

“There are also mistakes made in the middle. The players who are part of these very efficient and disciplined teams, if you say, ‘You know what? I’m going to have you over the barrel. I’m going to put the screws on,’ you know what? ? Be careful. You will be out of your ear and you will be amazed. “

“… If you are not George Kittle, and you are on this team, and you think you can put pressure on this team, I think discipline will defeat you, and you will have to find another job. I think I would be very careful.”

It can be argued that Mostert thrived late last season due to head coach Kyle Shanahan’s system. That does not mean that the runner cannot produce another offense. However, Young suggests that there must be a balance between earning what you are worth and being part of something special.

“I think 49ers players should recognize that this is one of the best places to be, in this unique space and time, right now,” Young continued. “And you can take a little less. You need to get your worth, and you need to fight. That doesn’t mean you just curl up in a fetal position, but you also recognize that there is something special about who you are.”

“Raheem Mostert, do you think he will really prosper as he did this year in the 49ers somewhere else? So I wonder if he doesn’t come back and say, ‘Look, what will you give me?’ If it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work. That’s fine. But sometimes, to prove them wrong when you have a unique situation and a unique type of support system, you have to be very careful. “

Steve Mariucci became the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers in 1997, where he received the gift of a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Steve Young. The two worked together for just over two seasons before Young retired from the league. Mariucci won 25 games in his first two seasons, thanks in part to Young’s heritage. The former NFL Network analyst coach joined 95.7 The Game on Tuesday and shared some of his memories of the quarterback, who now works as an analyst with ESPN. Fans know the impressive memories of the memory of current 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay. Mariucci shared that Young has a similar mental capacity. “His brain goes 100 miles an hour, with different thoughts … On the offensive, you hang on

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert requested a trade, according to a tweet from his agent, Brett Tessler. The agent pointed to months of unproductive contract talks with the team as the basis for the request. Tessler expressed his disappointment at the situation and his client, who led all NFL runners in yards per carry (5.6) last season and helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl LIV. After months of unproductive talks with the 49ers about the fair adjustment of Raheem Mostert’s contract (which paid him for special equipment), we have requested an exchange. Disappointing that would come to this for a guy who

Some have criticized Raheem Mostert’s agent requesting an exchange given the size of the work sample that the San Francisco 49ers running back has on his resume. Others respect Mostert’s game and have no problem seeing that he gets paid what he apparently deserves. Mostert may not have started a game last season, but that just means he wasn’t the running back on the field when the 49ers’ offense took his first hit. He still led the 49ers with 772 rushing yards and ran into the end zone eight times while carrying the ball and twice more after hauling passes. Mostert is clearly the best running back on the list, and his agent, Brett Tessler, wants the 49ers to pay his client that way. An analyst, Bucky Brooks of NFL Media,
