Finally, the 49ers recognize their star running back, Raheem Mostert.
During the offseason, they polished it when they asked for a modest raise. So two weeks ago, he requested an exchange.
Apparently, the 49ers issued their response to Mostert. And it wasn’t the raise he wanted. It was a meeting
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, “Mostert spoke to a senior member of the SF organization to clear the air and advance on the same page, sources say. When asked about the situation that was being resolved, Agent Brett Tessler said, “Hopefully that is the case.”
I don’t know, but I’m guessing the high-ranking official who met Mostert is General Manager John Lynch. He is the type of person who likes to “clean the air” and “get on the same page” with people. He is a decent guy. I just don’t know how much power it has anymore.
It appears that the 49ers have gradually phased out Lynch since the draft ended. He hasn’t spoken to the media since April nor has he tweeted since May, even though there has been a lot to talk about: Head Coach Kyle Shanahan received a contract extension and Mostert asked to be changed.
If the 49ers have really started kicking Lynch out, and he arranged this meeting with Mostert anyway, good for Lynch. He is a former player who sympathizes with other players.
But none of this means that Mostert will get his raise.
So far, you have received a meeting, not a raise. And now, there is a promising report, but there is still no increase. I suppose the report originated from the 49ers, because it makes them appear impartial and player friendly without doing anything. Additionally, Rapoport cited anonymous “sources” as well as Mostert’s agent, suggesting that the “sources” could be the 49ers.
Why would Mostert’s agent leak a report that his client still hasn’t gotten what he wants from the 49ers? Has no sense
This feels like a public relations move from the 49ers. If they finally give Mostert more money, great. But until something happens, nothing happened.
