The San Francisco 49ers held their second practice camp training session on Sunday. As will be the case with all practices, fans are not allowed and the restricted media that attend must observe social distance due to the coronavirus pandemic. That means keeping six feet away from players and staff and always wearing face cover.
No face-to-face interviews are allowed as player and availability of staff is done via video conference.
The 49ers have two more practices left before players get a day off on Wednesday. Monday’s session will be the first padded exercise.
Below are some of Sunday’s practice notes from various media sources.
Broad receiver Jalen Hurd “appeared” to injure his foot, and fell awkwardly while working on a side field with a strength coach. He was downstairs for a few minutes and then walked happily to the dressing room, roughly an hour into practice. “Injury does not seem serious, but something to check,” notes Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated. (SI, Sacramento Bee, The Athletic)
Hurd is being reimbursed to the training ground after missing a back injury last season and not participating in team training.
Defensive lineman Arik Armstead put out his second consecutive exercise with tight density. Head coach Kyle Shanahan did not seem to worry too much when speaking to the media on Saturday. (NBC Sports Bay area)
Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and tight end George Kittle having fun …
Cornerback Jason Verrett worked extensively on the left with the defense of the first team. Richard Sherman, who typically occupied that place, was on the right. (Sacramento Bee)
Cornerbacks Emmanuel Moseley and Ahkello Witherspoon worked primarily with the defense of the second team. (ESPN)
Rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had a strong exit, created separation from Verrett on one play and picked up a deep pass from Jimmy Garoppolo during 7-on-7 drills. (NBC Sports Bay area)
Pads will not arrive until tomorrow, but it is clear that Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk have already reported.
Several completions between the two are in practice today, including a Garoppolo bomb that hit Aiyuk in contention for a TD in 7-on-7s. Aesthetically comfortable

Rookie tight end Charlie Woerner made “some legit moves” during 1-on-1 drills. Back then Jerick McKinnon looked accustomed, as was the case on Saturday. (NBC Sports Bay area)
Another observation of non-padded exercises: Rookie 49ers TE Charlie Woerner certainly looks like the fluid athlete and receiver his former coaches and teammates raved about. Woerner shook Fred Warner on a 1-on-1 route, pointing the ball high … Read this: https: //t.co/Ab3FPuB5fS

Safety Marcell Harris underwent a reversal of Garoppolo. (Bay Area News Group)
Cornerback K’Waun Williams did not practice. Tight end Jordan Reed was also absent. (Sacramento Bee)
Defensive end Nick Bosa looked as good as ever, he deserved a Garoppolo case and impressed on the run of Raheem Mostert. He even got the upper hand at 1-on-1s against veteran tackle Trent Williams. Williams, however, responded well.
Nick Bosa was a disappointment, however. Slapped Jimmy Garoppolo and blew a Raheem Mostert whip on the next game in 11s. Beat Trent Williams in one-on-one with a move inside and then Williams put the next rep on his ass. Those two are fun to see against each other. # 49ers

And here’s an update on rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw against veteran guard Laken Tomlinson.
Not much to take from passport 1 v. 1s until padded, but G Laken Tomlinson handled matters against rookie DT Javon Kinlaw in four matchups I saw. Nick Bosa and Trent Williams battled for a draw on a few reps, each winning. Colton McKivitz did well at Versus against Thomas.

The San Francisco 49ers will hold their first training camp practice today. So far, the team has participated in walk-throughs. The session is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. with head coach Kyle Shanahan speaking to reporters afterward via a video conference call. Several players will then be made available. Below are some notes for exercises. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead will not practice due to some “back irritation.” Wide receiver Jalen Hurd and tight end Jordan Reed will participate but will be relieved again. Both players missed the very last season. Hurd treated a back injury while Reed treated the symptoms of a concussion. New 49ers, wide receivers Tavon Austin and JJ Nelson, are set to practice despite not

The San Francisco 49ers are betting on signing Jason Verrett last offseason. Why would it be a gamble to add a Pro Bowl cornerback to your defense? After it became a first round of drafting by the Chargers in 2014, Verrett had just one healthy season – that 2015 Pro Bowl year. He has landed on every injured reserve in each of his other five NFL seasons, including last season with the 49ers. Verrett almost made it back in 2019. He made one game appearance, taking part in just four defensive snaps before being sidelined for the rest of the season. Safety Jimmie Ward knows what it’s like to be plagued by injuries. He came on fourth injury injury reserve for last year’s breakout performance, in a season in which he managed to stay relatively healthy.
