3 takeaways from day 5 of Bills training camp practice

After a delay in their offseason schedule due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Bills players finally started to come on the field and tease each other. With yet to be canceled preseason games, every practice day held at Orchard Park is that much more important before the team’s season opener against the Jets on Sept. 13.

On Thursday, the Bills went full of hit for the first time since their playoff loss to the Texans. It saw a few players deserve some bumps and bruises as the team’s injury report on Friday was a bit longer.

But the Bills were still back after that full day, taking a light workload in their fifth training camp practice. Here are three takeaways from Bills’ Day 5 practice camps:

More Cody Ford

During the Bills practice game on Thursday, we got a quick peek at something very remarkable. Cody Ford was on the right guard, not right tackled. When Brian Winters was signed earlier this month, speculation persisted that Winters would be Jon Feliciano’s replacement. But maybe it’s Ford after all.

At least the Bills are juggling things on the line, because Ford has tackled in the past and not on the inside of the O-line. With all that movement going on, that’s something that every team wants to fix ASAP. In the case of the Bills, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott gave a timeline on when that substance should settle.

‘I would like to see something explode this week. When I say this week, I mean the next seven days. That we’ll just look, we’re still looking at some things, trying to evaluate, making sure we have a full evaluation and understanding of our situation, both what that would do at the starting level and what that would do … and how it would would affect our depth, ”McDermott said. “Before we take one last step, we will think that all those factors are taken into consideration.”
