Three best friends were found killed in a “horrible scene” on a Florida lake after one of them called his father for help, authorities said.
Damion Tillman, 23, Keven Springfield, 30, and Brandon Rollins, 27, had planned to go night fishing Friday night at Lake Streety in Frostproof, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Grady Judd said they believe Tillman first came to the lake to go on a catfish expedition.
When Rollins and Springfield arrived, they saw Tillman being hit and shot by the attackers, authorities said.
Rollins was still conscious when the attackers left and managed to call his father for help.
His father rushed to the lake about 10 minutes away, but forgot his cell phone to help his son.
The father drove to a nearby store, where the employee called 911.
But when help arrived, the three men had died from their injuries, authorities said.
“This is a horrible scene,” Judd said Saturday at a press conference. “I have been to many murder scenes in my life, and this is among the worst.”
Judd said they are looking for the perpetrators, but don’t think the triple murder was a random attack.
“You don’t run into someone here,” said Judd. “This is a dirt road, a clay dirt road, in the middle of what we call God’s country, way to a nice little fishing lake. Not that there are many people around here. “
