273 new cases of coronavirus, 19 more deaths reported on Sunday


Nineteen more people have died from the coronavirus, the state reported Sunday, as the number of confirmed deaths rose to 8,310. The confirmed cases of the disease grew in 273 and reached a total of 108,380.

The three-day average of COVID-19 confirmed deaths increased to 14 on Thursday from 12 on Wednesday.

According to the state, two hospitals were using surge capacity to treat patients with COVID-19 starting Saturday, up from four on Friday.

And the three-day average number of patients hospitalized for coronavirus was 377 as of Saturday, slightly above the 373 reported on Friday, according to the state.

The probable deaths from the coronavirus were 219 as of Sunday, and the state did not report new probable deaths due to COVID-19.

According to the state, probable cases of the disease totaled 7,257 as of Sunday, 96 more than a day earlier.

As of Sunday, 9,780 new people have received molecular tests, bringing the Massachusetts total to 1,113,502 people who have been tested.

The seven-day average positive rate for molecular testing was 1.9 percent on Saturday. Over the past month, that figure has held between 1.6 percent and 1.9 percent, although it has been rising in recent days.

The state also reported that 703 new people have received antibody tests, for a total of 92,459 people tested as of Sunday.
