Protests have been going on in Portland, Rey, on the 100th day of unrest since protests began after the death of black man George Floyd, who died in police custody in May.
Demonstrations against the country’s police brutality and systematic racism during the summer gave the nation a boost, but unrest in Portland has repeatedly turned violent, taking advantage of protests by extremist groups.
Portland police announced Saturday that 27 arrests were made between Friday night and Saturday morning, when groups refused to evacuate the area after advising officers to leave.

Hundreds of protesters met Friday in Canton Park before marching on the Portland Police Association building.
Authorities warned protesters to stay on the streets and away from private property, “citing them, arresting them, using tear gas, crowd-control agents or weapons of influence.”
A local publication said that by midnight Portland police were trying to disperse the crowd using smoking devices, shot effect munitions and stun grenades on the streets.
Police pinned people to the ground and detained them, leaving traces of blood where they were.

The Portland Police Department said in a statement on Saturday that illegal assembly was declared at the Portland Police Association’s offices in North Portland and numerous arrests were made after throwing stones at officers.
The statement said the protesters’ clothing indicated they did not intend to protest peacefully, including helmets, gas masks and armed clothing. They reportedly “burned him” as they marched in front of the Portland Police Association offices fee.
Officers waited 90 minutes before attempting to try to declassify the situation.
“Officers began making targeted arrests and in some cases moved the mob back and kept them off the street. Officials were often withdrawn and members of the legislature were given the opportunity to leave, “the statement said.
