Atlanta rapper 21 Savage launched a free online financial education program to help Atlanta’s youth, according to a press release about the company.
The program, Bank Account At Home, is partnered with mobile banking provider Chime and educational technology platform EverFi, according to the statement. The program builds on previous financial education efforts in the city by the rapper, whose real name is She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph.
For the past two years, Abraham-Joseph has partnered with Juma, a financial education nonprofit, for his youth education program bank account, according to the statement. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the program provided underserved youth with access to career counseling, job training, and job placement in sports and entertainment facilities.
Abraham-Joseph decided to make the program virtual after students who got jobs through the program were left without a job after COVID-19 closed the facility, according to the statement.
Abraham-Joseph and Chime also partnered with the #ATLStrong Relief Fund to provide tablets and Wi-Fi to students in Zone 6 of the Atlanta Police Department district system. Abraham-Joseph grew up in the eastern Atlanta area, which is located in the area.
