Michigan’s first season under new coach Juwan Howard It was an eventful event. The Wolverines had an amazing start to the season, topped by a ranking of the top five in December after winning the Battle of Atlantis. The Wolverines would hit the proverbial wall early in the conference game and are now in a situation where they will have to finish strong to secure a place in the NCAA Tournament.
Howard has worked to make the transition from John Beilein’s successful career as smooth as possible.
“It is not a challenge at all,” he told reporters on Media Day in October. “I have said this and I mean it from my heart. Coach Beilein and his approach to recruiting players has worked. The players who are here, that coach Beilein, DeAndre, Luke and Saddi, recruited high character boys. You do not have to monitor or micromanage them. Their families did a beautiful job raising them. As I say that, it hasn’t been difficult trying to pierce my culture or help them with their transition. I am authentic and natural, real, as they would say. I was once them once before. I was a player here before. I played at the highest level. I was able to understand exactly what it takes for a student-athlete to know where they are trying to go. “
On the recruiting path, the Wolverines signed the top class in the Big Ten in 2020, led by a four-star central prospect. Hunter Dickinson.
