2021 5-Star QB Caleb Williams Commits to Oklahoma

Lincoln Riley has another high-profile quarterback on the way.

Caleb Williams, Rivals.com’s highest-ranked quarterback and No. 3 overall player in the 2021 class, officially committed to playing in Oklahoma on Saturday night at CBS Sports.

Williams also announced her decision in an intense engagement video.

“I felt it was the best place for me overall,” Williams said, through The Oklahoman. “I have a year here, but I am ready to win the trust of my teammates, win the starting point and hopefully bring them a national championship.”

Williams, a double-threat quarterback from Washington, DC, is set to enter his senior season at Gonzaga College High School. He drove the show to an 8-3 finish last season and reached the conference semifinals.

Oklahoma had landed quarterback Brock Vandagriff, Rivals.com’s No. 5 player in the 2021 class, however, he retired on January 1. Georgia native Vandagriff later promised to play for the Bulldogs.

Williams will become the second-highest-ranked quarterback in three years to sign with the Sooners, joining red-shirt freshman Spencer Rattler, who is expected to start in Oklahoma this fall, according to The Oklahoman.

The pair are just the last best quarterbacks to choose to play for Riley in Oklahoma, after Trophy winners Heisman Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. Jaylen Hurts led the Sooners to a 12-2 record last season, and finished second in the Heisman Trophy vote behind LSU quarterback Joe Burrow.

With Williams ‘commitment, the Sooners’ recruiting class jumped to number 15 on the Rivals.com ranking. The state of Ohio is currently at the top of the 2021 ranking, followed by Tennessee, Florida, and USC.
