Refreshing FedEx Cup-clinching victory at the 2020 Tour Championship, Dustin Johnson was riding his red-hot summer straight on the winged foot, 2020 U.S. However, after 18 holes, Johnson topped the list with Justin Thomas (4-1) and finished 11th on the Odds board at 33-1.

The first of six majors to be played during the 2020-21 season, the US Open surprised many on Thursday by playing easier than expected. It shouldn’t be in the final three days, which means the tournament and the first big trophy of the year are still (almost) going to be won by anyone.

Behind Thomas, who is the lowest U.S. player in the history of Winged Foot. Scored the open round, it’s Rory McLeroy (7-1), who sits two shots behind the leader entering on Friday. McLeroy is suffering from an extended major drought, although fighting a tough road when he wants his second US Open and fifth major championship may just be the right medicine for him.

He will go down in the FedEx Cup playoffs with a top-10 finish after playing a good game in consecutive outings to end his 2019-20 season on a high note. If Rory can start this season just like his last – with six consecutive top-5 finishes – he will be in great shape to be a factor again this weekend. McLeo has not won a major win since 2015 but is in pain for a second success ending in the top-10 US Open in two of his last five attempts.

The odds are nowhere near the top of the board after Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson went over and over during the first round, respectively. Mickelson also makes a cut that would be a prayer, while Woods is trying to do the same during the second round on Friday.

As we enter Round 2, let’s take a look at the hurdles updated by the William Hill Sportsbook for the 2020 US Open.
