The PGA TOUR is heading to MoTown for this weekend’s Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club.
Golf punters will remember this tournament because last year’s winner, Nate lashley, was an alternate entry, so it didn’t even feature in pre-tournament odds or in any DFS market.
Lashley, who is on the board at +15000 this week (the $ 10 bet wins $ 1,500), ran away from the field with a 25 under, but it was not the only long shot in the standings. Doc Redman, Rory Sabbatini, Wes Roach and Cameron Tringale He completed the top 5 in Detroit last year and, with all due respect to that team, he wouldn’t exactly label it as a row of assassins.
The PGA TOUR courses have been elite ever since they resumed play earlier this month, but the Rocket Mortgage Classic enrollment list is a bit nascent. So it’s not surprising to see Bryson DeChambeau with so little chance at the Detroit Golf Club. The 26-year-old opened at +600 (the $ 10 bet wins $ 60) and is the only player with single-digit odds.
Webb Simpson, who retired last week after his victory at Harbor Town, is the second choice at +1100, with Patrick Reed (+1400) and Tyrrell Hatton (+1500) registering right behind him.
This will be Reed’s fourth consecutive start after passing T7-MC-T24 between The Charles Schwab Challenge and The Travelers.
This will be Hatton’s second outing since the restart, but the Englishman showed no rust in his first round, finishing T3 at Harbor Town.
As expected the fit Viktor HovlandThe price (+2200) has been reduced considerably in this weaker field. The 22-year-old Norwegian has been in good shape since the TOUR returned, finishing within the top 25 at Colonial and Harbor Town before his T11 at TPC River Highlands. You can expect Hovland to be a popular choice in betting and DFS this week.
Hovland, who finished third in The Travelers in Strokes Gained: Approach, is sitting in the same range as Tony Finau (+2200), Hideki Matsuyama (+2200) and Sungjae Im (+2500). Rickie Fowler, who missed the cut in his two starts since TOUR resumed play, is at +3000.
Things start to look pretty weird after Fowler, with a group of golfers who are generally closer to 100-1 going between +3000 and +6000. Lucas Glover, which was 150-1 for The Travelers, is as low as +4500 (DraftKings) while Kevin Na It dropped to 40-1 at PointsBet after it was priced at 125-1 last week.
Maybe no one’s odds changed more week to week than Doc Redman, which went from 200-1 to 50-1. Redman, who finished second at this event last season, is coming off a T11 finish at The Travelers and has made all three cuts since TOUR returned.
A couple of other notable golfers in this range are Jason Day (+5000) Brandt Snedeker (+6600), Harold Varner III (+6600) and the leader of 54 holes in The Travelers, Brendon Todd (+7000).
