2020 Northern Trust Odds: Bryson DeChambeau the Favorite, Tiger Woods opens at 45-1

It’s the playoff season of golf.

The three-week FedEx Cup playoffs begin this week with the 2020 Northern Trust at TPC Boston.

The top 70 at the conclusion of the Northern Trust will move on to the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields CC in Illinois.

Even though he is not the favorite, it is difficult not to start with Collin Morikawa at +2500 ($ 10 bet wins $ 250). Fresh from his win at the PGA Championship in 2020, the prodigy from Cal has the seventh-shortest odds in a star-studded field and they still feel a little high, seeing how well Morikawa has played since the hiatus.

Morikawa has better odds then Patrick Reed (+2800), Webb Simpson (+3000), Patrick Cantlay (+3500), Tony Finau (+3500), Brooks Koepka (+3500) and Hideki Matsuyama (+4500) to name a few.

Bryson DeChambeau (+1100) opened as the direct favorite at TPC Boston, just ahead Justin Thomas (+1300), Rory McIlroy (+1500), Jon Rahm (+1700), Xander Schauffele (+1700) and Dustin Johnson (+2200).

A field of this strength will always put odds on some big names and perhaps the most surprising number on the board Tiger Woods at 45-1.

Sportsbooks will always get action on Tiger when he is in the field, regardless of the number, so they usually burden him heavily. You could argue that this number is still too short on The Big Cat, but it’s definitely closer to a fair price than we normally see on Woods ahead of a tournament. Expect Tiger to pull off a ton of action at TPC Boston.

The range +5000 to +7500 is always compelling at events of this caliber and there are a ton of household names in this range. It’s hard to roll through the board and not bet everyone in this tier.

Tyrrell Hatton (+5000) missed the cut at the PGA Championship, but for that he seems to bet every time he passes. The Englishman has two top-five finishes in his four starts since the hiatus.

It’s pretty full right behind Hatton as well Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Abraham Ancer, Scottie Scheffler, Billy Horschel en Adam Scott all sit at +5500.

Hovland has taken kind of backwardness because of the heroes of Morikawa, but it was not long ago that the bet on Hovland was high in some tough fields. It would not be surprising to see Hovland a little briefly, as we get a little closer on Thursday morning.

Gary Woodland, Rickie Fowler, Matthew Wolff en Justin Rose all opened at +7000. Every member of that fourth has dolls on the Return to Golf at the moment, but not one of them has been able to put it all together. Rose, Wolff and Woodland have all been in controversy at some point on Sundays in recent months, while Fowler has apparently had low rounds for high rounds since the break. Whatever the form of it, it would not be so shocking to see one of these guys at TPC Boston this week.

And in fact there is Jordan Spieth, the most polarizing man in golf betting, at +9000, same odds as Harris English en Kevin Kisner. Spieth has apparently not been at the top of his game the last few seasons, but his talent always makes it difficult for him to get over at almost three-digit odds.

I would imagine that the three-time Majorwinner has some support at 90-1.
