2020 NHL Draft: Flyers trade in 4th round, 94th overall selection of Zayed Wisdom

Without a third-round pick due to a Justin Brown trade in June 2019, the Flyers decided to slide all the way to the front of the fourth round during the second day of the 2020 NHL Draft.

On Wednesday, the Flyers traded 116th and 147th overall picks to capture the first slot in the fourth round, where they moved Zayed Wisdom to 94th overall.

Wisdom is a winger who scored 59 points (29 goals, 30 assists) in 62 games for OHL’s Kingston Frontenax in 2019-20.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder was ranked 71st in the draft by Craig Button of TSN.

“We really like it from a complementary point of view,” said amateur scout Rick Presy on Wednesday, by J. Sivile, director of flyers of public relations. “He’s a guy who can do plays, he thinks well on the ice. His funny game is positive. We like that he provides a physical element. He’s strong. We think he’s competitive and He has a good game. “

Wisdom Philly comes with a strong inspirational background from a difficult childhood, not detailed here on “TSN Original: Nothing Gwen” and in a story by Athletic’s Scott Wheeler.

Dear former flyer Wayne Symonds is the mentor of Wisdom. Symonds presented the NHL’s EJ McGuire Award of Excellence to Wisdom this week. This honor is given to a junior hockey player, who exemplifies the commitment to excellence through character, competitiveness and athleticism.

In a post-draft video interview, Wisdom was excited to call Symonds later to talk about Philadelphia.

“There’s a guy in your corner where he’s advising you and telling you what your best decision would be and giving advice can help you a ton,” Wisdom said Wednesday.

On the 1st day of the draft, the Flyers took the second winger out of the OHL in Tyson Forster in 23 overs.

“I’ve known Tyson since I was 5 or 6 [years old], ”Said Wisdom.

The Flyers opened the 2nd day of the draft by holding Swedish defender Emil Andre in 54th overall.
