2020 Indianapolis 500 results: Takuma Sato holds off Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal for his second Indy win

Takuma Sato pulled late from the race away from Scott Dixon and Graham Rahal to claim his second victory at the Indianapolis 500, under caution. Spencer Pigot hit the wall with five laps to go, putting the race under a yellow flag as he hit the wall at the pit lane, forcing the finish under caution. Pigot was taken off the track in an ambulance but was shown moving on the broadcast and was waiting when he was taken away.

Dixon had the dominant car for most of the day, leading 111 laps. It’s the third time Dixon has finished as a finisher in the Indy 500, and all three of those finishes in second place have come under caution. Sato meanwhile rode to another win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where he tossed the bricks for the first time back on Memorial Day weekend 2017. In addition to being his second Indy 500 win, it is the second Indianapolis 500 win for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

The 2020 Indianapolis 500 took place three months after the original planned date, and was held without spectators at the 235,000-seat.
