Netflix leads the way with 160 HBO nominations and 107 – including 26 for “Watchmen” – at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards.
It’s not the best time, it’s probably the worst of times … but award season is award season, so here we go.
Starting today at 8:30 am PST, the Television Academy will announce nominations for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards. It has been a fierce phase of Campaign 1, with traditional FYC events canceled following widespread quarantine orders to stay home and the normal spate of promotional interviews moving entirely online. IndieWire will cover the announcement live, with repeated updates to the list of nominations below as they are announced.
It’s hard to determine how the last six months of closings, protests, and divisive policies will affect this year’s nominations; While staunch Emmy favorites like Amazon Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” are still running, the discontinuation of productions in the spring of 2020 eliminated several contenders who otherwise would have debuted during the Emmy rating year. (Sorry “Barry!” See you next year, if we’re not all dead by then!)
The nominations were announced this morning by host Leslie Jones, assisted by Josh Gad, Tatiana Maslany and Laverne Cox.
