2020 Commemorative Odds: Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau the favorites; Tiger Woods opens 25-1 in exchange

The biggest question every golf bettor came up with at bedtime Sunday night was, “Where would Tiger Woods open?”

The answer is +2500 (also written as 25-1, the $ 10 bet wins $ 250).

Playing in his first tournament since the break and on a strong field, Woods has the same odds as Hideki Matsuyama and the two are in the middle Viktor Hovland (+2200) and Brooks Koepka (+2800).

You can expect Tiger, who was in the 16-1 range in his last start on The Genesis Invitational, to generate a ton of action on that number. Woods is almost always among the most popular bets when he plays and a 25 to 1 payout at the GOAT can be too difficult for casual bettors.

Woods will undoubtedly be the story of the week, but there are many other interesting numbers on the board.

Last week’s winner, Collin Morikawa, has the seventh lowest probability on the board at +2000. Morikawa, who has more wins than missed cuts in his young career on the PGA TOUR, was 33-1 on the way to the Workday Charity Open held here at Muirfield Village.

I guess it’s about time we got to the favorite tournament. That honor belongs to Justin Thomas for the second week in a row. Thomas, who lost to Morikawa in a three-hole playoff on Workday, opened at +900 and is the only golf player on the list with single-digit odds.

Thomas is just ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, which was taken last week after his victory at The Rocket Mortgage as a +650 favorite. On a stronger field that includes many players who just played this course last week, DeChambeau has dropped to +1000. Don’t be surprised if Bryson ends up as the betting favorite at most bookmakers by the time we start on Thursday.

Rory McIlroy it is then registered at +1200. Before taking the last two weeks off, Rory finished T11 on The Travelers, which was his best performance since the game resumed. McIlroy grooves just in front of Patrick Cantlay (+1600), who comes from a T7 at Workday.

Another player who won in his last start, Dustin Johnson, open to +1800 together with Jon Rahm. Johnson was ranked 40-1 for Charles Schwab and Heritage, making it clear that punters believe in his return to form.

Considering the strength of this field, I knew there would be some surprising numbers at the mid tier.

Justin Rose (+5500) was hugely popular at last week’s event due to its strong course record, but burned its sponsors by missing the cut to par-10 at the Workday Charity Open. Those two rounds were enough for bookmakers to more than double their odds for The Memorial.

Another popular choice last week, Marc LeishmanYou have also seen your balloon odds. The Australian seemed to have a chance to compete for the first 25 holes or so on Workday, but he fell apart and didn’t make it to the weekend. Leishman can be found at 80-1.

Joining Leishman at +8000 is Sungjae Im. The South Korean pinwheel has returned to earth for the past month and this is a very strong field, but it is still a bit surprising to see that I am stumbling across the entire board.
