202 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai’i (O’ahu 197, Kaua’i 2, Hawai’i Island 2, Maui 1) | Maui No

The state has reported another three-digit increase in new COVID-19 cases with 202 new cases today, including 197 on Oʻahu, two each on Kaua’i and Hawai’i Island, and one on Maui. There were also four dead on the island of Oʻahu.

The deaths of two of the men, both over 60 years old, were reported yesterday, but are included in the case today. The third and fourth deaths reported today are men 40-59 years old, at least one of whom had underlying health conditions. Investigations into all the dead are ongoing. The Hawaiii death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 38.

To date, there have been 38 Hawaii-related deaths in Hawaii, including 31 to Oʻahu, six in Maui County, and one resident of Kauaai who was hospitalized in Arizona.

State Health officials say the spread of the coronavirus community, particularly on O’ahu, is the primary cause of new infections.

There are multiple clusters of infections, including five distinct restaurant clusters; however, each involves a few employees at one location, and at present no transfer to customers has been identified. An employee potluck at Honolulu Hale is a potential source of transmission for 11 cases of disease among Honolulu city and county workers.

Director of State Health Dr Bruce Anderson said, “The key factor to keep in mind, through community-associated infections, remains the one responsible for the flow in COVID-19 cases over the past week and a half. The virus is being spread by drops “and that’s why wearing masks and distance is so important. We all need to continue these and other safe practices.”

The department investigates these cases and works with these establishments on quarantine and prevention measures for its staff. State health officials say there is currently no risk to the public and no cases outside of the workers.

QUARANTINE UPDATES:

Out-of-State Arrivals: On Monday, July 13, Gov. David Ige announced the launch of the state testing pilot program by a month to September 1, 2020. He also announced the extension of Hawai’i’s 14-day quarantine on a trip to the Trans-Pacific until the end of August. This Hawaii arrival quarantine will remain in effect unless a separate proclamation is terminated or extended.

Reset Interisland Quarantine section: Maui County residents are reminded that the Governor has reinstated the mandatory 14-day quarantine for all travel between islands other than arrival in Oʻahu. The quarantine covers trips from Maui to Hawaii Island or Kauaʻi, as well as trips to and from Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi. This will remain in effect through August 31, unless terminated or extended by a separate proclamation.

Individuals on Maui traveling to Honolulu would not have to quarantine for 14 days while on Oʻahu. Upon return, however, these individuals would have to quarantine upon return to Maui County.
