2 more suspects arrested in gang rape of 16-year-old girl in Israel

Two more suspects were allegedly arrested on Saturday in the rape of the gang of a 16-year-old girl in Israel that devastated the nation.

The two suspects, both 17 years old, are thought to be among the maximum 30 men accused of filming themselves raping the victim at a hotel in the resort town of Eliat in southern Israel last week, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The suspects are the third and fourth to be arrested in the attack, which has sparked protests in the country and drawn disgust from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called it “a crime against humanity”.

The teen had gone out with drinks with friends before stopping at the hotel to use the bathroom, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

She was then allegedly taken to a hotel room and raped several times because the teenager’s friend tried in vain to help

The girl has now been under police guard since becoming a target online after her social media accounts were leaked.

Her lawyer, Shani Moran, also said he was overwhelmed with requests from disturbed individuals interested in getting videos that were allegedly taken from the rapes.

The first suspect, who is in his late 20s, was arrested on Wednesday after police identified him via video clips of the alleged attack and found messages to the victim on his phone.

The man told police the meeting was consensual.

A second suspect, also in his late 20s, was arrested Thursday morning.

Police are expecting more arrests in the case, with the girl expected to confront the existing suspects in court on Sunday, according to the Jerusalem Post.
