Montana state health officials reported two more deaths and 88 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, according to the Montana Response COVID-19 monitoring map.
The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Montana now stands at 39. Both new deaths are connected to the Canyon Creek Memory Care facility in Billings, where a fatal outbreak has now claimed 12 lives. RiverStone Health released this press release on Monday morning:
RiverStone Health, the Yellowstone County public health department, reports two additional COVID-19-related deaths from the outbreak at Canyon Creek Memory Care.
On Saturday, July 18, a woman in her 80s passed away at Canyon Creek Memory Care.
On Sunday, July 19, a man in his 80s also passed away at Canyon Creek Memory Care.
To protect the privacy of individuals and their families, RiverStone Health will not disclose more information about the deaths.
These more recent deaths in Yellowstone County are reflected in today’s COVID-19 State Tracking Map. In the past two weeks, since Monday, July 6, a total of 12 Canyon Creek residents have died.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the deaths of these residents. Saying goodbye to a loved one is never easy and the tragedy of COVID-19 related deaths is even more heartbreaking. Our deepest condolences to the families and friends of these individuals, ”said John Felton, Yellowstone County Health Officer and President and CEO of RiverStone Health.
To date, 717 Yellowstone County residents have been infected with COVID-19 and 17 have died.

Gallatin County reported most new cases during the previous 24-hour reporting period with 34. Yellowstone County followed up with 15 new cases, and Flathead County reported 12 new cases.
Cascade County reported eight new cases, and four new cases were reported in each Big Horn and Missoula county. Lake, Lewis and Clark and Lincoln counties reported three new cases, and one new case was reported in each of Madison and McCone counties. The McCone County case was the first reported in that area.

There are currently 1,248 active cases of COVID-19 in the state. Yellowstone County has the most active cases in 485. There are 101 active cases in Gallatin County and 94 active cases in Missoula County. Lake County has 91 active cases, Big Horn County has 72 active cases.
There have been 1,334 recoveries, and there are currently 48 people hospitalized with the virus.
A total of 139,042 tests have been completed, an increase of 5,883 since Sunday’s report.
