1usmus Unveils ClockTuner Performance Boosting Utility For AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs

Yuri Bubliy who is more famous in the tech community than 1usmus has boosted its new performance to AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs known as ClockTuner for Ryzen as CTR for short. The new tool is not only meant to help deliver increased performance for Zen 2 Ryzen owners, but also improves efficiency by reducing the power draw of Zen 2-based Processors.

Unveiled 1usmus CRT (ClockTuner For Ryzen) – Increases Performance and Improves Efficiency for All Zen 2-Based AMD Ryzen CPUs

1usmus is famous for his work on the DRAM Calculator for Ryzen and is now expanding beyond his capabilities. The latest of its Ryzen tuning tools is known as CTR or ClockTuner for Ryzen. The tuning utility is designed to increase the performance of Zen 2-based Processors that include both Ryzen 3000 and 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper CPUs without increasing power consumption.

How the tool accomplishes this is quite complicated, but the CUS of 1usmus is fully automated, so users do not have to worry about. It is explained that the utility will increase the overall performance of AMD’s Zen 2 processors, specifically those with a chiplet-based design, by distinguishing each of the individual CCX modules. By performing an undervolt on each CCX, it is shown that Zen 2 processors not only run faster but also cooler. This also reduces the total energy consumption, while the CPU can maintain an active state for all energy saving technologies.

Another important feature of CTR is Smart Overclocking which evaluates the quality of each CCX & adjusts the frequencies individually. A special Prime95 preset, also developed by 1usmus, is embedded in the utility that evaluates the quality of each CCX. An algorithm is designed that fine-tunes the frequency for a balanced operation for all CCXs without shifting the load on the CPU nodes (modules).

Prime95 is not the only evaluation software embedded in CTR. 1usmus has also presented a Cinebench R20 plug-in test package, which not only evaluates the overall performance of the tuned CPU, but also shows the CPU voltage and power consumption as part of the efficiency tests achieved while performing the built-in Cinebench R20 benchmark.

1usmus’s has stated that CTR will be free for everyone to use and offer better performance than most overclocking programs or automated boosting techniques offered by motherboard vendors that provide only a small increase in performance while increasing TBP by 50% and sometimes even above that.

1usmus’s CTR (ClockTuner For AMD Ryzen) CPU Performance and Efficiency Test

As for the results achieved with CTR, 1usmus has delivered results from two Zen 2 systems. One is configured with the Ryzen 9 3900X (ASUS Rog Crosshair VII Hero) and the other runs the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X (ASUS ROG Zenith II Extreme). Both systems were compared at standard & tuned (CTR) settings.

Compared to the standard AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU, the discontinued variant provides a 7% increase in performance, while the overall drawing of CPU power decreases by 12.8 Watts. The CPU runs at a higher frequency, while maintaining a lower voltage of 1.225V against the standard 1.312V.

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X system saw a performance increase of 5.2% and the total power output dropped by 12 Watts. The CPU also ran at a lower voltage of 1.25V, while maintaining stable clocks as opposed to the standard chip configured at 1.296V.

In terms of compatibility, the CTR software for AMD Ryzen CPUs is supported by all AM4 motherboards. Even if your motherboard does not support CCX configuration for CCX, it would still work, because the low-level SMU access is able to bypass all the restrictions imposed by CPU or motherboard manufacturers. It is also specifically stated that CTR does not contain any insecure code that could be detected by anti-virus software as dangerous to the system. This was one of the major issues with the AMD DRAM calculator for Ryzen CPUs, but has been fixed with CTR.

There is no word yet on the release schedule for the software, but we expect referral links to go live next month.
