15 patients die at Katy rehabilitation facility under investigation for COVID-19 outbreak



For families with lovers in a luxury rehabilitation center in Houston area, a COVID-19 outbreak has reached a devastating new level. On Tuesday, a coronavirus outbreak at a Katy’s Sterling Oaks Rehabilitation facility with a possible 15 deaths is now being investigated, Harris County Public Health announced.

According to HCPH health officials, there have been six confirmed COVID-19 deaths at the facility. Nine more dead are now awaiting medical assessment.


HCPH has confirmed that it is now actively monitoring the 88 residents and staff of facilities for coronavirus symptoms. In early July, health officials began investigating Sterling Oaks after discovering two positive cases.

“The elderly and people with underlying health conditions such as weakened immune systems are at a very high risk for developing serious complications of COVID-19, including hospitalizations and deaths,” Harris County officials said.

Health officials added that it was essential that visits to these centers be restricted to prevent the spread of COVID-19.


“In order to keep lovers in nursing homes and / or facilities safe in the long term and to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread, it is important that community members continue to take active prevention measures, including visits to these types of facilities, “Harris County officials have continued.

There are now 86,563 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Houston / Harris County and 905 deaths, according to HCPH officials.
