14 people shot outside Chicago funeral: police


None of the victims or suspects has been publicly identified.

At least 14 people were shot Tuesday in front of a Chicago funeral home, according to the Chicago Police Department.

An unknown number of people inside a vehicle shot several people on the street attending a funeral. People on the street exchanged fire with people in the vehicle, according to authorities.

Police said the suspects’ car crashed and they fled the scene.

The shooting took place around 6:30 pm local time in the 1000 block of West 79th Street.

60 caps were found at the scene, Eric Carter, the first assistant superintendent of Chicago police, said at a news conference Tuesday night. He also said the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

Chicago Fire officials, according to ABC Chicago’s WLS station, said all of the shooting victims were in serious or critical condition.

The names, ages and genders of the victims are unknown at this time and all were transported to five nearby hospitals.

A person is currently being questioned, Chicago police said.
