The Orange County Health Care Agency reported another 873 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, July 16. The cumulative total for Orange County is 27,904 since local testing began in March.
There were 11 new deaths reported Thursday, bringing the total number of Orange County residents who have died to 466.
Data on deaths in the county is either compiled from death certificates or collected throughout the investigation of the case and can take weeks to process, authorities say.
Of the 466 deaths, 222 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 16 were in assisted living facilities, and two were on the homeless list.
The state coronavirus board reports that there have been 110 deaths in Orange County in the past 14 days.
County-wide, 334,011 confirmed tests for coronavirus have been reported since testing began, with data through July 15. There were 5,010 daily tests reported in the update.
The state gave a test positivity rate of 10.9% for the county, with 98,373 tests conducted in the past two weeks.
The county estimates the number of recoveries from the virus is 12,264. The count of people who have recovered is based on the previous cumulative case count of 28 days.
According to the California Department of Health, there have been 10,683 new cases of COVID-19 in Orange County in the past 14 days.
The state agency also reports that 813 patients hospitalized in the past 14 days (suspicious and positive) at 33 hospitals across the county as of Thursday.
The state’s coronavirus control panel shows that Orange County has at least 36% of its ICU beds available, up from 39% on Wednesday.

- 85 and older: 32% (148)
- 75-84: 26% (119)
- 65-74: 17% (81)
- 55-64: 13% (59)
- 45-54: 8% (38)
- 35-44: 3% (13)
- 25-34: 1% (7)
- 18-24: <1% (1)
- 17 and under: 0%
The data released daily is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
