Approximately $ 10,000 in fireworks was stolen from a North Portland fundraising booth on Friday night.
They were stolen from a Peninsula Optimist Club fundraising booth located at Fred Meyer on North Lombard Street, police said Saturday.
When the volunteers showed up on Saturday morning, they found the lock on the container where the fireworks were damaged and the fireworks were missing.
The money from the cabin fireworks sales went to benefit local youth groups and community organizations in North Portland.
“This theft has a resounding impact on the community as the Peninsula Optimist Club is a prime example of a group that invests in and supports the marginalized in our community,” said Chief Chuck Lovell. “I hope those involved will hear this and reconsider and return the items.”
Police are investigating and seeking advice on the crime.
