Yoshinori Ono announces departure from Capcom after nearly 30 years with the company

Yoshinori Ono has announced that he will be leaving Capcom this summer after nearly 30 years at the company. Of course, this also means that he will relinquish his role as Capcom brand manager.

“And now, after serving almost 30 years at Capcom, I’m leaving the company this summer,” Ono said in his release statement. “This means that I will be relinquishing my position as Market Manager for the various Capcom titles, including Street Fighter.”

Yoshinori Ono returned to Capcom in April 1994, and was part of the Sound Engineer of Development Team Division 1. With him leaving this summer, he will have spent nearly 27 years at Capcom.

For many gamers, Ono’s most notable achievement helped fight a 2008 battle back in 2008 and 2009 with the arcade and console releases of Street Fighter 4.

While other developers continued to deliver new entries in their franchises, after Street Fighter 4, a number of fighting game levels would reach levels they had not seen in decades. Gamers all over the world have found this passion for the first time, or had reigned in it.

Since joining Capcom, Ono has worked with the company on more than 30 titles, including Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike, Street Fighter X Tekken, Darkstalkers Resurrection, Street Fighter 5 and Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Players of the Dear Street Fighter series and members of Fighting Game Community

There have been many unexpected events worldwide by 2020. In particular, COVID-19 has affected the lives and health of many people around the world. I pray that you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy.

Since the Capcom Cup in 2013, the Capcom Pro Tour has become an annual event due to the continued tremendous support of players and Fighting Game Community members around the world.

We at Capcom have had many internal discussions about the format for the CPT 2020. It has taken us a long time to decide the format for this year, but we believe that the implementation of the event even those who supported the CPT , repay, what the format is.

Needless to say, I understand that there has been some criticism about this particular format. However, I am fully convinced that it is important to shed light on various hopes by holding the event itself in this way.

In addition, I am extremely grateful that so many players and Fighting Game Community members and their relatives have supported us so that we can have the CPT happen this year.

I have been with the Street Fighter brand for a while, experiencing good times, bad times and even non-existent times. My heart is full of appreciation for those players who have given warm and friendly support to the market over the past decades, as all activities on the Street Fighter market gained sunshine and their vitality grew.

And now, after serving at Capcom for almost 30 years, I’m leaving the company this summer. This means that I will resign my position as Market Manager for several Capcom titles, including Street Fighter.

Capcom’s new generation will continue to provide the Street Fighter brand and lead the World Warriors. And I believe they continue to make Street Fighter extraordinary. I will come out to see the new Street Fighter brand and how it will be expanded, just like one of the regular gamers next time.

I have tried to make contact with those with whom I have been working with me in the past about my dismissal. However, it is quite difficult to reach out to all the people with whom I have been associated for almost three decades, so I would stupidly ask your friendly understanding. When the opportunity arises, I would like to extend my heartfelt greetings and my appreciation to those individuals and companies with whom I had the opportunity to work.

Again, to many players, FGC and its operating staff, and all fans of Street Fighter, thank you so much for your continued support. I’m sorry that I, as the executive producer of the Street Fighter series, was unable to do “SHORYUKEN” with you all at every event in 2020, so allow me to call on you as your closing statement in this post.
