Yankees Highlights: Aaron Judge and Mike Ford Go Against the Phillies

The Yankees demolished their city rivals over the weekend, but had to settle for a draw against Joe Girardi and the Phillies. With the 2-2 draw, the Yankees have wrapped up their three-game exhibition slate, and are now locked and loaded for their opening date with defending champion Washington Nationals. The beginning of this strange season (to say the least) is truly over.

Game winner

After hosting a power show last night, the Yankees’ bats were a little calmer tonight. The only damage in the first eight innings came through another Aaron Judge home run, his third in the past two nights:

After pulling out his two diners yesterday, Judge objected, showing off his power from around the world.

It was Mike Ford who snatched a tie from the jaws of defeat. Ford led the end of the ninth with a solo homer to equalize the score:

After the ninth inning ended without further action, the teams agreed not to take the procedures to extras and called him in one night.

Honorable mention: Rare Baseball The Phillies started the game with two DHs, but eliminated one in the middle of the game. Judge’s home run came after the third out of the fifth inning was recorded, because Philly wanted Vince Velazquez to work a little harder. For my part, I support the MLB initiative to institute a Calvinball touch.

Loser of the game

It was a tough start for the Yankees’ top prospect. Deivi Garcia looked a little nervous in the first inning of his first start at Yankee Stadium, missing points on both the glove and arm sides. After a couple of quick exits to start the game, Garcia gave up a run and loaded the bases with two doubles and two walks. He escaped with minimal damage, but shot a pickoff shot and hit a batter in the second before Aaron Boone came and caught the young right-hander.

Hopefully Garcia, 21, will have a great start in the Bronx as a member of the Yankees. This was simply not one of them.
