Xiaomi has unveiled its next Salvo in Fast Charging Wars, a new 80W wireless system that the company claims has beaten any other competitor. The 80W solution is said to be capable of charging a 4,000 mAh battery that is 50 percent complete in eight minutes and 100 percent full in 19 minutes. The video above shows it in action on the modified Mi10 Pro.
Xiaomi already has the fastest wireless charging on shipping phones; The Mi10 Ultra has 50W wireless technology that can fully charge its 4,500mAh battery in 40 minutes. Oppo recently announced a 65W solution that is said to be capable of charging a 4,000 mAh battery in 30 minutes, but the tech has yet to be shipped to a commercial device.
Fast wireless charging is rarely seen outside of China, where companies like Huawei and Xiaomi have been working to outperform each other for a while. The fastest option widely available in the West is the OnePlus 8 Pro, which has an optional 30W wireless charger. 15W for iPhone 12 line charge for Apple’s new MagSafe chargers.
While Xiaomi hasn’t announced when the phone with 80W wireless charging actually comes on board, but it shouldn’t be too far away. Over the past few years the company has consistently introduced phones with high-wireless power specs, the Mi 10 Ultra came out just a few months ago.
