Xbox Lockhart supports ray tracing, claims by Verge journalists; Reiterates that the CPU is faster than that of the PS5

Microsoft’s Xbox Lockhart is said to support ray tracing, according to renowned Verge journalist Tom Warren.

Last week, Warren reported that the CPU within the “budget” version of the X Series yet to be announced will sync at the same speed as its older brother. Microsoft has yet to confirm Lockhart’s existence, but all rumors point to a revelation in the coming months. According to the journalist, the ‘Xbox Series S’ is supposed to have 7.5 GB of usable memory and a 4 TFLOP GPU.

Xbox Series S / Lockhart reportedly finally revealed in August

Following community comments that ‘Lockhart’ will stop next-gen consoles, Warren again turned to Twitter to claim that this will not be the case at all. In fact, the reporter not only reiterated that the CPU within Xbox Lockhart will be faster than the CPU within the PS5 but that, like the X Series, the ‘Xbox S Series’ is also supposed to be hardware compatible Ray Tracing.

“I guess we should start worrying that the PS5 will slow down next-gen gaming in your world at the time,” Warren replied when someone said that developers would downgrade their games with Lockhart in mind.

As stated, Microsoft has yet to announce Lockhart, but interestingly, references to the project were found in the latest release notes from Microsoft’s game development kit. Rumors suggest that the console will be a fully digital console that will sell for half the price of the Xbox Series X, which sells for around $ 400 USD. Microsoft is said to make up for the losses it suffers on its next-gen consoles by receiving a bigger cut in game sales and more subscriptions.

If Microsoft’s Lockhart Project is real, but if so, we’ll probably hear more about the console during Microsoft’s Xbox Series X event next month. As always, we will keep you informed.
